Joe Biden, forseti Bandaríkjanna, lýsti yfir miklum hamförum í Flórída, til að auðvelda aðgengi yfirvalda að neyðarsjóðum.
Fjöldi fólks er innlyksa í húsum sínum vegna flóða og tvær milljónir manna eru án rafmagns á suðvestanverðum Flórídaskaga í Bandaríkjunum eftir að fellibylurinn Ian gekk þar yfir í nótt. Fellibylurinn er einn sá öflugasti sem gengið hefur á land í Bandaríkjunum.
Sjá einnig: Tvær milljónir án rafmagns og fólk innlyksa eftir Ian
Ian var fjórða stigs fellibylur þegar hann gekk á land á Flórída með vindhraða upp á 67 metra á sekúndu. Hann var þá fimmti öflugasti fellibylur í sögu Bandaríkjanna hvað varðar vindhraða. Seint í gærkvöldi hafði dregið úr krafti bylsins sem var þá kominn niður á fyrsta stig. Hann stefnir nú út á Atlantshafið.
Fógeti í Lee-sýslu í Flórída sagðist fyrir skömmu búast við því að hundruð hefðu dáið vegna Ians.
