Earthquake of magnitude 5.2 at Bárðarbunga By Kolbeinn Tumi Daðason 23. september 2014 09:43 Vísir/Egill Aðalsteinsson Seismic activity around Bárðarbunga is unchanged compared to recent days. Around 20 earthquakes have been automatically detected on the Bárðarbunga caldera rim, the strongest events were magnitude Mw5.2 at 04:33, as well as Mw3.9 at 01:51 and Mw3.6 at 01:54, all on the northeastern rim. Around 15 earthquakes of magnitude smaller than 2 have been detected in the dyke intrusion. The volcanic activity at the eruption site appears to be stable, based on webcam observations. Few reports that it appeared to be stronger this morning past 06:00 could not be verified by any data: No signal on the radar above 1.5 km and no obvious changes in seismic tremor, no signs of explosive activity. Activity has occasionally increased and decreased in small pulses in recent days, but never escalated significantly compared to what has been observed since the onset of the eruption.
