New working procedures for Icelandair and Wow Air By Birgir Olgeirsson 26. mars 2015 20:43 Both Icelandair and Wow Air are going to adopt the working procedure that there must be at least two crew members in the cockpit. Vísir/GVA Both Icelandair and Wow Air are going to adopt the working procedure that there must be at least two crew members in the cockpit. This decision is made because of the tragedy that occurred when the co-pilot of the Germanwings-airplane crashed the plane on purpose in the Alps last Tuesday. The captain of the airplane had left the cockpit and went to the toilet. When he came back, the co-polit had locked the door of the cockpit, slowed the plane down and put it on dive. On the audio recording it can be hard when the captain asks the pilot to let him in but he never receives any answer. Some airlines have already announced that from now on at least two crew members must in the cockpit each time after this was revealed today. Guðjón Arngrímsson, the PR officer of Icelandair, says that the company now has adopted this working procedure and that it will take effect immediately. "After the news of the causes of the airplane crash in France, Icelandair has decided to adopt the working procdure in flight that at least two crew members must always be in the cockpit. If one of the pilots needs to go away, then a stewardess or a flight attendant enters the cockpit," Guðjón says in an interview with Vísir. Svanhvít Friðriksdóttir, the PR officer of Wow Air, says that the company follows international standards and that it is not a working procedure of the company that there must always be two crew members in the cockpit each time. "But in the light of the this tragic news, we're inspecting our working procdures and that will amongst other things include an adoption of this rule," Svanhvít says.
