Environmental Minister to Try for Vice Chair Position

Minister for the Environment Jónína Bjartmarz has announced that she will run for the vice chairperson position for her party, the Progressive Party, at their national convention this August. The new leadership of the party is still in question, as it is unknown whether current vice chairman and Agricultural Minister Guðni Ágústsson will run against Industrial Minister Jón Sigurðsson. Bjartmarz told Fréttablaðið that she"s received a lot of encouragement to run for the position, and that she intends to "strengthen the base of support within the party and increase its presence in the political landscape."
